Benapole is a village in Sharsha Upazila of Jessore district near the Bangladesh-India border. Benapole has a border checkpoint and an international land port, known as Benapole Land Port. In contrast to the Benapole land port operated by the Bangladesh Land Port Authority, the Indian part is known as Petrapol, which includes the Bangaon subdivision of West Bengal. And Benapole railway station has rail connectivity between Bangladesh and India. Benapole land port, known as the main center of land trade between Bangladesh and India, is located at a distance of about 60 km from Kolkata. About 90 percent of the trade between the two countries takes place through Benapole. As a result, the economically important Benapole land port has a custom house for customs collection. Commodity trade also travels between the two countries on this land route with hundreds of travelers every day.

How to reach there

You can reach Jessore by road, rail, and air from the capital Dhaka. And from Jessore district headquarters you can go to Benapole land port in Sharsha Upazila by bus, private car, or auto. Several AC / non-AC buses of Sohag, Green Line, Shyamoli, and Eagle Transport operate from Kalyanpur, Gabtali, and Kalabagan in Dhaka. Jessore-bound non-AC bus fare is 350-500 tk. and AC bus fare is 800-1000 tk.


From Dhaka's Kamalapur Railway Station, the intercity Sundarbans Express train leaves for Jessore at 6:20 am on any other day of the week except Saturday and another intercity train called Chitra Express leaves for Jessore at 7 pm on all other days of the week except Monday. Train tickets cost 350-1280 tk. in different categories. Regent Airlines, United Airlines, and NovoAir operate regular flights on the Dhaka-Jessore route from the domestic terminal at Dhaka Shahjalal International Airport.
