As an independent country, Bangladesh got its freedom on 16th December 1971. But there is a long history behind this. Bengal people have got their freedom under the leadership of a great person named Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibar Rahman. In 1947, the whole of Bengal got divided into two parts named India and Pakistan. Again, Pakistan got divided into two parts as East Pakistan and West Pakistan. Bangladesh was introduced as East Pakistan. From the initiation of East and West Pakistan, West Pakistan's people started to snatch the facilities from Bangladeshi people and also exploited us. Our great leader, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibar Rahman announced the victory of our country on 26th March 1971 as Pakistani armies started killing Bengali people from the night of 25th March. From that day to 16th December, there was a noteworthy war between armed Pakistani armies and unarmed Bengali people. The history is remarkable to be remembered. History is a story of agony and torture. On 16th December, Pakistani armies finally surrendered before the Bengali people and got their freedom.

From the very first divination of Bengal West, Pakistani people would discriminate in everything. They did not give equal facilities like funds. They did not even give Bangladeshi people any chance to sit in the administration building and form the government. In 1970, Bangladesh's biggest political party Awami League got a victory over Pakistani people to sit and form the government but Pakistani people started drama not to give the chance Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibar Rahman. It was decided to hold a national assembly on 3rd March of that year but in secret, the President of west Pakistan named Iahiya Khan and the leader of West Pakistan named Julfikar Ali Bhutto planned to kill the Bengali people with the help of Pakistani armies. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibar Rahman gave an announcement on 7th March of that instant to awake Bengali people and to form protests against Pakistani people. His that announcement or speech is known as Historical 7th March speech or. On 25th March, Pakistani armies attacked upon innocent Bengali people and started killing them without any discrimination. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibar Rahman was taken to jail that night. On 17th April, 1971, to have liberation war and to organize it, a temporary government was formed. Then, freedom fighters started to have fights against Pakistani armies at different points of the country.
