History of Rajshahi University

Rajshahi University, which started its journey with only 161 students, is today a knowledge acquisition center for 33,000 students. The beginning was not so smooth though. The movement for the establishment of Rajshahi University started in 1950 and its results were captured in 1953 which was finalized with the establishment of the university. At the time of its establishment, the institution was taught at Rajshahi College, and accommodation was provided to the students through various rented houses in the city. Work on the university's campus began in 1958, and all faculties began the process of relocating to their campuses, which was completed in 1974.

Heavenly Green and Historical Place On Earth

The farther you can go, the more it will feel like a green land in heaven. After walking along the path of the main gate, you will meet around a square decorated with trees. Which is surrounded by concrete and tiles. All kinds of flowers are being decorated.

The green courtyard of Motihar is the lifeblood of travel-thirsty and knowledge-loving people. But to see the green carpet of Motihar, one has to keep an eye on the south-west side of the administration building. There you will see a road, with dazzling sky trees on either side. The skyscrapers adorned with young twigs that stand as intimate guards on both sides of Pichdhala Road have taken the beauty of the university to another level. Walking down the street will feel like walking down a road in France. However, it is not a road in Paris, it is the Paris Road of Rajshahi University. The road has gone from Kajla Gate of the university to Sher-e-Bangla Hall.

It attracts thousands of nature lovers. From morning to noon, from noon to evening — even at night, teachers, students, and ordinary people live here. Their walks and storytelling go on for a long time. The Senate building of the university is next to Paris Road. There is a flower garden in front of the building. Shabash Bangladesh sculpture is a burning proof of independence next to this cool and cool building surrounded by trees. It is one of the largest sculptures commemorating the liberation war of Bangladesh. Its architect is the artist Nitun Kundu. It is a symbolic sculpture of the young freedom fighters who participated in the great liberation war of Bangladesh in 1971.

The central Shaheed Minar of Rajshahi University stands proudly in front of Sher-e-Bangla Fazlul Huq holding the memory of language movement and glorious independence. The main stage of the architectural work on four acres of land is connected with an open stage, a rich martyr's memorial museum, a cafeteria, a garden, and a green courtyard. Students' stories and chat rooms are held in the green courtyard in the afternoon. At the base of the installation is a 58-foot-high pillar on a 12-foot-high hexagonal platform. There are several steps to reach the base stage of the Shaheed Minar. There is a flower garden on the west side of the main installation.

There are more than 30 species of eye-catching flowering plants. This massacre memorial of Rajshahi University has witnessed the sacrifices of many unnamed martyrs. There is a garden on about 10 acres of land just before the railway line, west of the slaughterhouse and in the northwest corner of the university. Inside the house, various species of sensitive trees are growing with intensive care. At present, there are about five thousand trees in the garden. Of these, 690 species of trees have been identified.

At present, there are many more rare species of trees including Cannonball, Naglingan, Kolpanch, Lalkoch, Bhuyakumara, Pockettub, Old Coconut. The lush green soil of the Barind cools the campus and the greenery of the trees. Colorful flowers spread the sweet smell in the fresh air of the campus. At the same time, bees are buzzing with the smell of flowers. That is why this campus of Motihar is the first choice of nature lovers.

Besides, the country's first Liberation War Museum was established at the Rajshahi University campus. There are 2 administrative buildings on the campus, Central Jame Mosque, Playground, Medical Center, Deans Complex, Senate Building, 4 buildings of Faculty of Science, Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Business Education, Faculty of Fine Arts, Public Library, TSCC, BNCC Building. , Cafeteria, Printing Press, Raksu Building. There are also university campuses- Shaheed Minar Complex, Memorial, Golden Jubilee Tower, Sabash Bangladesh, Slaughterhouse, Vidyargha, Spark. The only full-fledged stadium in the country is located on the RU campus

Rajshahi University In The War Of Liberation

Dr. Mohammad Shamsuzzoha took another step towards the independence of the Bengali nation at the cost of his life. Dr. Zoha is therefore known to the Bengali nation as Shaheed Zoha. The pre-independence period saw the fall of the Ayub government with the death of Shaheed Zoha, which created a different kind of confidence among the Bengali nation that played a role in the liberation war of '71. Also, the country's largest mass grave at the RU campus witnessed the brutality of the Pakistani military.
