  History of Mother House

In 1950, Mother House was established with a single aim of selfless devotion to the disadvantaged and weaker sections of the society. Including a fourth specific yet most significant of most of the promises of providing "wholehearted selfless and free service to the poorest of the poor" the parishioners take vows of poverty , chastity and conformity.   Missionary services involve nursing homes and residences for people with HIV / AIDS, leprosy and tuberculosis, programs for kids and family therapy, hospices and education, and are assisted by colleagues and volunteers.   The Mother House is Mother Teresa's burial place. Here, people pay respects and give blessings. Visitors have been using this venue for reflection, as it is a soulful place filled with positivity that bring peace of mind.

The founding day of The Organization or Mother House was on 7 October 1950. Also, the first group members were 12 persons, including Mother Teresa herself and her pupils. Without the opportunity to support themselves, the group came into being of the sole purpose of helping and caring for the lost, poor, starving, disabled, including both children and adults who really need love and support.     What may be established as a group of 12 members go to becoming Pilgrims of Welfare and began to expand the work beyond Kolkata slowly. Mother Teresa was also required by the Vatican to seek access to build a church in Calcutta, which had been granted. Finally, in 1965, Pope Paul VI gave Mother Teresa the mandate to extend her humanitarian and charitable activities including her religious community beyond India.

All that said, several centers have been established after the declaration of countries such as Venezuela, Rome and Tanzania and 100 other nations.   As the sister congregation expanded and received prominence, Mother Teresa herself founded another congregation of the Brothers in 1979 and introduced it to the community. The Brothers' very carefully introduced Priest Division was appointed in 1984 as the Priests of Charity Fathers.   Father Joseph Langford helped Mother Teresa to create the Missionaries of Charity Fathers, merging the purpose of their lives and culture with the Ministerial Priesthood. After introducing Venezuela as the very first country to house the first Missionaries of charity care outside India, the community expanded and founded several homes in Europe , Africa , Asia and the United States.

When age and poor health began to catch up, Mother Teresa retired from her position of head of Missionaries of Welfare in 1990.     She was re-voted as head, though, and eventually chose to pursue as head until March 1997. She remained in the same state at Kolkata 's Mother House and died on September 5, 1997.
