Notable as the Lakshminarayan Temple in honor of the god Vishnu and his company Lakshmi, the eye-catching Birla Mandir complex centers is one of the most gorgeous temples in the Indian capital. Despite Its construction in the 1930s, it is standing still one of the finest local examples of modern temple architecture. Birla Mandir is a temple located on Ashutosh Chowdhury Road in Kolkata, the capital of the Indian state of West Bengal, built by the industrialist Birla family where Janmashtami is observed with great pomp in this temple.

The History

The building of this temple began in 1970 which took 28 years to complete. The construction of this temple was supervised by the Sompura Brahmin community. Swami Chidananda laid the foundation stone of this temple on 21 February 1997. Karan Singh inaugurated the temple on the same day.

Temple

Built on 44 kathas of land, this temple is modelled on the Lingaraj temple in Bhubaneswar. The temple also features some of the features of Rajasthani temple architecture. The scenes of the Bhagavad Gita are depicted on the temple. The temple was designed by architect Nami Basu. The main temple has idols of Krishna and Radha. There is a statue of Durga on the top left. On the right side of the peak, there is a statue of meditating Shiva.

It's one of the most beautiful and charming Hindu Temple where everyone is welcomed warmly which was inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi on the condition that people of all classes will be allowed to have access here and taste the beauty of it full of excitement. The majestically built structures of the Birla Temple is hard to miss once you reach there. Amazing domes wrapped in intricate stonework and design illustrate the main facade of the temple. Moreover, some artifacts in the temple are built with silver and Belgian glass imparting a unique divinity to the shrine. As dusk approaches, the beautiful Birla Mandir is illuminated with electric diyas and gleaming chandeliers; the constant chanting and soft melody only add to its spiritual charm. From all over the world thousands of visitors come here to visit this spectacular architecture, especially during Janmashtami which is celebrated here with great enjoyment. Visitors, coming here to enjoy, never regret their time spent here and return to their home happily and most of them come back here to enjoy it again as its captivating beauty can easily catch anyone's mind in no time.
