As per the research of geologists The Bright red granite is several million years old. This monolithic structure is one thousand feet in width, as well as the height, is five thousand four hundred feet above from sea level which is a part of the Khasi folklore with a beautiful shape.

The northern and eastern sides of the rock can approachable whereas the southern flank is unapproachable because of massive detached blocks of rock while the northern part of the rock is surrounded with dense forests such as age-old red Rhododendron trees and oaks as well as bushy, white Rhododendron trees. Kyllang Rock has specific types of magical fields for that reason it prevents the fall of anyone from the slope. One can climb on the top of the rock by the staircase on the other hand it takes around 40 minutes to Trek on the top of the rock. This rock is called a family stone made up of a man, a woman, and a child. There are many folk tales about Kailang Rock, one of which is the story of a family where the father, mother, and child were returning from the giant hills and crawled towards Mudoh.

However, after arriving on the top the view is amazing one can enjoy the beautiful landscape all around, the lush green forests, and the farm areas. Due to monsoons season, it becomes tough to traveling on Kyllang rock from June to August whereas in winter months this traveling area shows a beautiful sight of itself because of the bushy rhododendrons which provide a perfect backdrop for this giant dome.

Tips: 

  1. The prime season for traveling is in winter season so we all know Meghalaya gets very cold, so if you travel during the winter months, store enough wool
  2. Try to wear shoes with a good grip, as slippers and slippery soles can be a problem when climbing a rock.
  3. Maybe a local guide can help you perfectly to trek on the top of the rock.
How to go: 

Air: If one wants to go by air then he can go to the nearest airport which is at Umroi, 35 km from Shillong and is connected to Guwahati and other North-eastern cities because Guwahati is the nearest international airport well connected to major cities of the country located some 100 km from Shillong. After that one can reserve a cab.

Rail: By using the nearest rail station which is at Guwahati from where one can either hire a cab or catch public or private buses directly.

Road: Shillong is just 78 km from Kyllang Rock and 12 km from Mairangso one can easily reach by hiring a cab or by catching a bus.
