Eid ul Azha

The word ‘eid’ means happiness. There are two eid in Islam which is celebrated by the Muslim people around the whole world. The word ‘azha’ means sacrifice, which means the eid of sacrifice or the feast of sacrifice. This is the second eid of the year. It is one of the most important festivals of Islamic calendar. This Eid reminds the people about the sacrifice of prophet Ibrahim (A) in obedience to the command of Allah. It shows the willingness of him to sacrifice beloved son Ismail (A).A person who offer the sacrifice will gain the special reward and pleasing of Allah the Almighty. It is obligatory for the people to offer the sacrifice if they are eligible for it by the financial condition. It is one of the pillars of Islam to offer the sacrifice or the Qurbani.

  Eid ul Adha is a government holiday around the different countries of the world. The holiday depends on the organizations and the governmental decisions. But not less than 3 days of holiday is offered. People start to leave Dhaka and travel to their village to celebrate the eid with their loved ones and family members. There are huge rush of people can be seen on the bus, launch and rail station a week before the eid. As this is the eid of sacrifice, a huge number of cattle are required in the Dhaka area and the city area from where it comes directly from the rural area. Many cattle market has being settled up in the earlier week of the eid. People from the different part of the city visit does market to buy their desired cattle for sacrifice. The proper proctoring is done by the authority to maintain the proper buying and selling of the cattle. The festive vibe can be seen on the cattle market and among the people who wants to buy the cattle.

The cattle market includes the cow, goat, buffalo and the camels in Bangladesh. The prices of the cattle depend on the situation and condition of the market the availability of the cattle. Huge crowd can be seen before the two days of the Eid ul Adha in the market. To maintain the communal harmony and peace it is recommended to give the zakat to the people who are needy. As there is also clear instruction to divide the meat of the sacrificed animal into three parts. One parties for the person who sacrificed the animal, one part is for the relatives and the last part is for the poor people who are underprivileged and couldn't perform the sacrifice. As Islam shows the path of peace and harmony, this step can have a great impact in the society to create the bonding among the different class’s people of the society.

The other motive of this eid is the poor and hungry people can also be feed. The people there are necessary shopping according to their capabilities, crowd can be seen from the shopping malls to the roadside shops to buy the new clothes and enjoy the day. There is obligatory two rakat for the day of eid which should be performed in congregation before the factory files is done. The proper arrangement for the prayer is done on the open field. Many people gather here to offer the eid prayer in the early of the morning. After the eid prayer they embraced each other and offer their greetings to the fellow brothers. Then they offer the sacrifice slaughtering their beloved animals. On the occasion of eid different type of spicy and sweet dishes is prepared. It is sunnah to eat sweet in the morning of the eid day before going for prayer. Though the day of eid is a busy day, people from different area visited the recreational public places on the next day of the eid and enjoy their holiday. They also visit their relative’s house and attend the invitation. Eid create the bonding of happiness love among the people. Young people are seen to be roaming around the locality wearing new clothes and collecting eid bonus from the elder person. The festive mood can be seen among the people of the society. Different TV and radio station offer wide range of entertaining program for three to five days after the eid. People can enjoy those programs staying at home with their family. As this is the eid of sacrifice, so we should be careful about the proper slaughtering process and keep in mind that anyway we should not pollute the environment. We should clean our surrounding properly spread the love and harmony of the eid among the people.
