Tanguar Haor is the second-largest sweet-water swamp area in the Sunamganj district; the area is about 100 sq km. After Sundarbans, it is the most beautiful largest sweet-water swamp in the northeast reign of Bangladesh. It is located in Dharmapasha of Tahirpur Upazila in Sunamganj.  This Haor is adorned with outstretched water, water forests, blue sky, hills, and a green environment. In the foothills of Jaintia hills, Khasia of Meghalaya in India, Tanguar Haor is a huge habitat for fish, birds, and other aquatic animals. This entire area of Tanguar Haor is almost 6912 acres. However, during the monsoon, this Haor area goes up to 20,000 acres for the rise of water.

Specialty Tanguar Haor is very rich in natural resources. It has developed great biodiversity consisting of 140 species of fish, 12 species of frogs, one species of amphibians, six species of turtles, seven species of lizards, 21 species of snakes. And more than 150 species of reptiles. In winter, about 250 species of migratory birds come to the Haor from Siberia. It is estimated that around two million birds were in the Tanguar Haor in the last winter. From TanguarHaor, the hills of Meghalaya of India are seen clearly. Almost 30 small fountains from Meghalaya fall into Tanguar Haor. There is another tourist point – the watchtower on the side of the Haor. The water in the surrounding areas is so clear that you can see the HaorHaor's bottom from the surface. The primary bird sanctuaries of the Tanguar Haor are known as Leuchamara and Berberia Beel.

How to enjoy The best thing you can do is take a boat to the Haor and spent at least two nights under the clear, starry night surrounded by translucent, bluish water. This can be the most amazing moment in your life. The beauty of the Haor is out of the world.

As there are no decent hotels near the Haor, it is best to hire a launch or bojra to spend the night. In this way, you will never leave the splendid, picturesque Haor. Also, food is available in the bojra or launch whichever you hire. The men will catch fresh fish   from the Haor so you can have an amazing meal.

Hiring a bojra will cost you about 10,000 BDT a day. However, it is not wise to visit the Haor in the monsoon without a life jacket and other necessary precautions given the rough, wavy waterline, despite the unparalleled splendor that this huge water body upholds in this season. The best option is to hire a launch from Sunamganj to Tangoar Haor via Tahirpur and finally reach Takerghat, the limestone mine at the foot of the Meghalayan ranges currently lying in an abandoned state.
