Baghmara

The headquarters of South Garo Hills district in the state of Meghalaya in India is Baghmara which is famous for its beauty, surrounded with so many florae, fauna, boasts many small lakes, rivers, and rolling hills. The place is located near the border side of Indo- Bangladesh, 287 km south of Shillong, and about 113 km from Tura. One can explore the famous Someshwari River which is also known as Simsang in Garo tribal language. This place is covered with hills and tracts. The famous Balphakram National Park and The Siju Cave is located near Baghmara which is respectively 45 km and 66 km away from this amazing place.

Also, you can enjoy the tasty fish of this place and van find out the historical trading system with Bangladesh which is done by the sea. Carnivorous plants and pitcher plants are surrounded at the Dilsa Hill colony of Baghmara. Baghmara Reserve Forest is located 4 km from Baghmara town and is home to elephants, birds, and langurs. In addition, if you want to enjoy the third longest cave system in the Indian subcontinent then don’t forget to visit Siju Caves which is near Baghmara. The impressive rock formations inside the caves, known as the "Princess D's House". And if you are a bird lover then The Siju Bird Sanctuary will catch your heart also. So if you are a nature lover then baghmara is highly recommended for you and it will be enjoyable for a family vacation, solo trip and also for couples.

Best time to visit

October to February will be the perfect time to visit Baghmara. However, Bagmara is near to Cherrapunjee so this place is not suitable for a visit in the monsoon season. The famous 3-day bonanza festival is being organized in December. You can enjoy different types of events at this festival.

How to go: Air: The Nearest Airport is LokpriyaGopinathBordoloi International Airport also known as Guwahati International Airport which is 139 km away from Baghmara and about 345 KM from Guwahati International Airport. From there you can hire a bus or car.

Train: The closest railway station is Guwahati Railway Station which is 320 km away from Baghmara.

Road: There have available overnight bus services to Tura which is the closest town to Baghmara but only one overnight bus service available from Guwahati to Baghmara. also have some customer service available from Tura to Baghmara. The distance between Baghmara to Tura is around 106 km which will cost 3 and a half hours’ time of yours. As an Alternative you can use shared taxi services that are available from Bharalumukh, Guwahati to will take 6 hours long drive.
